Toddler Center (18 months to 30 months)

Our toddler centre uses a wide variety of hands-on exploration and adult-child interaction. The trusted interaction between adult and children provides emotional fuel that can help them puzzle out the mysteries of this social and physical world. HighScope provides a range of strategies teachers can use to create supportive interactions with toddlers.

Research based and child focused, the HighScope Infant-Toddler Curriculum uses a carefully designed process of learning through discovery, called active participatory learning. During active learning, caregivers encourage infants and toddlers to discover the world around them by exploring and playing. Learning and development are anchored by long-term, trusting relationships with caregivers, who are close at hand to support children as they play.

  • Active Learning: Every child is an active learner. Activities conducted are based on child’s area of interest
  • Observation: All activities created for infants are based on observation and assessment.
  • Adult-Child Interaction: Teachers and toddlers form trusting relationships, with lots of encouragement and guiding to problem solve
  • Schedules & Routine: Young children need routines and our routines involve:
    • Arrival and departure
    • Caregiving routines (eat, sleep, bathe)
    • Choice Time (child chooses their own activity)
    • Outside Time
    • Small and Large Group Time
